This website www.shitmusicproducer.com is run by Matthew Gough, author of Inside the Mindset of a Sh*t Music Producer. This page explains what information the site collects, what I do with it, and what your rights are. It's deliberately short, because the site doesn't do much with your data.

What I collect‍ ‍

Contact form. If you use the contact form, I receive whatever you type into it — your name, your email address and your message. That's it. I don't ask for anything else and I don't need anything else.

This site doesn't use analytics tracking, advertising cookies, or any tools that follow you around the web. I've turned off my website host's visitor analytics, so I'm not building a profile of who visits or what they look at.

Why I collect it and what I do with it

‍ ‍

I use contact form submissions for one thing: replying to you. If you ask a question, I'll answer it. If you send feedback about the book, I'll read it (and probably appreciate it). I won't add you to a mailing list, sell your details, or pass them to anyone else for marketing.

‍ ‍

In legal terms, the basis for this is "legitimate interests" — you've got in touch, and it's in both our interests that I can respond.

‍ ‍

Where your information is stored

‍ ‍

The site is built on Squarespace, which hosts the site and stores form submissions on my behalf. Squarespace may also email a copy of your submission to me. Squarespace's servers may be located outside the UK; Squarespace has its own safeguards in place for that, and you can read their privacy policy at squarespace.com/privacy.

‍ ‍

Beyond Squarespace and my own email inbox, nobody else has access to what you send.

‍ ‍

How long I keep it

‍ ‍

I keep contact form submissions for as long as it takes to deal with them, and delete them within 3 years of receiving them at the latest. If you'd like something deleted sooner, just ask.

‍ ‍

Cookies

‍ ‍

This site only uses a small number of essential cookies that Squarespace needs to make the site work — things like keeping the site secure and letting the contact form submit properly. These don't track you and don't require your consent, which is why there's no cookie banner. There are no analytics or advertising cookies.

‍ ‍

Links to other sites

‍ ‍

The site links out to retailers where you can buy the book (Amazon, Apple Books, Kobo and so on), and possibly to YouTube, Spotify or social media. Once you click through to those sites, their privacy policies apply, not this one. I don't control what they collect.

‍ ‍

Your rights

‍ ‍

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

‍ ‍

  • ask what personal data I hold about you

  • ask me to correct it if it's wrong

  • ask me to delete it

  • object to me using it

‍ ‍

To do any of the above, email me via the contact form and I'll sort it out. If you're not happy with how I've handled your data, you also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

‍ ‍

Changes to this policy

‍ ‍

If anything on the site changes — for example, if I add a mailing list or start selling the book directly through this site — I'll update this page to reflect it and change the date at the top.
